City of Lakes AmeriCorps is one of the oldest AmeriCorps programs in the Twin Cities. For over 25 years our members have served the youth of Minneapolis as tutors, out-of-school enrichment leaders, and positive adult role models who inspire youth to reach their full potential. We can help your school advance the growth of your Long-Term English Learners!
At this time, we are only able to place members in MPS public school sites. Each school site must have a student population that includes at least 20 Long-Term English Learnersn (LTELs) in the middle school grades. Long-Term English Learners are students with five or more years of Limited English Proficiency classification. If this applies to your school, our program may be a good fit for you! Here are the next steps to take:
1. Explore our web site to learn more about our program. The About Us section outlines our program structure and approach to working with LTELs. The Become a Member section can give you a sense of who our members are. This flyer gives a sense of what sites must provide and what the program provides.
2. Contact the program staff that corresponds to the services you are interested in, or simply complete this form, to set a meeting to complete an official site plan.
3. Plan to attend CoL New Site Training in late May of 2022. At least 2 staff people from your site must attend this training.
At any point, please feel free to reach out to any one of the CoL staff with your questions. We are happy to further discuss our program model and how we can best serve the needs of LTELs at your school!
