There is no single profile that makes an ideal CoL Member!  Whether you are looking for a career change, are already pursuing an ESL teaching license, or have recently graduated college or high school with no idea what you want to do next,  you could be a successful City of Lakes AmeriCorps member if the following statements apply to you:

You believe in young people. You put students at the forefront and are a passionate advocate. You are not here to "fix" students, but instead see them as creative, resourceful and whole individuals. You believe that every student can achieve at a high level and will do whatever it takes to help them get there.

You are service-minded. You embrace that the focus of your year is service to others.  When you see that something needs to get done, you roll up your sleeves and do it -- from the most mundane, to the most inspiring tasks - no matter how hard things appear.

You build relationships You know how to build and nurture positive adult-youth relationships that guide students in developing their own skills.   In addition, you easily establish professional collaborative relationships with the adults around you.
 
You act professionally. You are dependable above all else, have a strong work ethic, and you rise to the challenges inherent in working for change within a system.  You know good communication is key. Effective members communicate with students in an age and developmentally appropriate way, and communicate professionally with school and program staff.
 
You have a growth mindset.  You know your don't have all the answers, but are willing to take risks and learn from your mistakes. You embrace and respond to feedback throughout your service. You continually reflect on your own practices and strive to improve them.
 
You are proactive.  You take initiative and think on your feet. You focus on solutions, not problems. When presented with unexpected challenges, you quickly devise solutions and take action.
